From the cultural town of Spittal, known for its impressive Renaissance Porcia Palace and the nearby Lake Millstätter See, it's off along the Drau towards the Alps-Adriatic town of Villach. This easy stretch leads through agricultural landscapes and small villages, and also through the village of Molzbichl, which houses a special museum on the people of Carantania, a folk from which Carinthia emerged. Always in sight is the imposing marble quarry in Gummern, where stone has been mined since Roman times.
Once in Villach, you will be enthralled by the southern flair of this town. It is the unofficial capital of the Drau cycle path, a highlight for gourmets, art lovers and shopping fans. The town on the banks of the Drau radiates "dolce vita" and is a good place to have a rest day - which you could also spend by one of the popular bathing lakes in the area around Villach. What's more, your bicycle can also take a break - with the unique bicycle butler on the Drau promenade.
